Low Water Crossing Issues

The Lost Creek Limited District is acutely aware of the large crowds and parking issues at the District park at Barton Creek (low water crossing), no doubt recently exacerbated by the current COVID-19 activity restrictions.

The Board will discuss this issue at its meeting this Wednesday May 13, at 6:30PM, under the following agenda item:

Discussion and possible action concerning policies and operations related to public access and use of District greenbelt lands at Barton Creek (low water crossing), including establishment of user fees.

Note that this meeting will be a remote meeting only. Instructions for attending the meeting virtually can be found on the District website here.

The full agenda for the meeting, including requirements for citizens wishing to make public comment, can be found here.

Barton Creek Cleanup

Lost Creek Limited District will conduct its annual Clean Barton Creek Greenbelt Event on June 3, from 9:00AM – 11:00AM.

Please join us in meeting at the District building at 1305 Quaker Ridge Dr. at 9:00AM. We will distribute maps and supplies, and will have breakfast tacos, water, and coffee for all volunteers.

Once we’re organized and fed, we’ll have a quick safety discussion, then head down to the low water crossing and split up into small groups to pick up trash.

We’ll be done when we run out of trash or at 11:00, whichever comes first.

The District will supply trash bags, gloves, goggles, and insect repellent for anyone who needs them.

Bring your water bottles and we’ll have plenty of cold water to refill them.

This is a great volunteer opportunity for Scouts and students looking for community service opportunities. We will have certificates recognizing their contribution for all volunteers, and patches for the young (and young-at-heart).

If you're planning on joining us, try to give us a call at 512 327 6243 or drop us an email at office@lostcreekld.org to help us with our planning.

Please hope for great weather and let’s all work together to beautify the Greenbelt!

Oak WIlt

If you're doing Firewise work on your property, be sure and be mindful of oak wilt. We are currently in the time of year when oak pruning is discouraged. Also, with the recent high winds in the area, be sure and look for resulting tree wounds which could leave your trees open to infection.

TexasOakWilt.org provides a wealth of information about oak wilt; pruning and care guidelines can be found here.

Holiday Hours and Building Work

In observance of the holiday season, the Lost Creek Limited District office will be closed on Monday, December 26 and Monday, January 2.

We will be doing some renovation work on the building from December 14 until approximately January 2. During this period (except for the holiday closures) we will be maintaining regular office hours; however, the meeting rooms will be unavailable for use. We expect to be able to make the rooms available again by January 3.

The District wishes everyone a safe and happy holiday season, and looks forward to welcoming everyone in our improved space during the upcoming year.
